Possible alternatives:

  • Ignore consciousness altogether as something purposely undefined (see Part 1). That approach is not the easiest to take because how else would we prove that we are superior to the bloody machines.
  • Claim consciousness for humans only but fix the social and legal rules to include AGI as a social and legal entity. Similar to the beauty of an art object has enormous variation in people’s eyes. Still, as long as the art object has a price (financial facet) and it’s copyrighted (legal stance), artists and non-artists can peacefully coexist. I consider this the most likely scenario.
  • Consciousness is the metacognition needed to model ourselves in a third person in relation to the world. The meta part is an abstraction with NN back propagation feedback for optimization.
